Freedom of Speech has to be Fair

"Gibbs weighed in on the controversy after several top White House advisers have gone on other channels to criticize Fox News' coverage of the administration, dismiss the network as the mouthpiece of the Republican Party and urge other news organizations not to treat Fox News as a legitimate news station. " Gibbs is the WH press secretary.

Fox News is the only media outlet that has conservative shows that openly criticize the Obama administration and their actions. They are obviously only concerned with blocking progress and trying to keep everything the way it has always been.

Right-wingers say that MSNBC, ABC, and some of the other networks are "in love with Obama" or always support him and never criticize him. Well thats because he hasn't done anything justifying criticism. People on Fox only criticize him because either A) he is black, B) he is liberal, or C) he wants to help poor and destitute people which is in direct contradiction with the goals and objectives of the Republican party. While there might be some conservatives with a heart out there, the majority of Republicans only care about one thing, money.

Its time for the government to take a stand. Our government cannot allow organizations like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh to get on air and openly lie about what is going on. They have to be censured in some way so that people don't interpret what they are saying as the facts. Things like the Fairness Doctrine will ensure that both liberal and conservative voices get the exact same air time on the radio and people not in compliance will be punished. This can also oave the way for more fairness on the internet and TV. The only way to have true fairness is for the government to enforce it through controlling who is saying what in the media and on the air.

  1. Ya, thats a great idea! I don't want any other opinions on the news or radio either. Government should have control of it all. Why would we want anyone to disagree with them. Plus, not like the government should be using there time on bigger issues like the unemployment rate, the war, etc. Sorry, ham bone....I strongly disagree.

  2. I am pretty sure Hambone has liberal herpes.

  3. Go figure, someone turned on the blog

  4. Are you out of your mind? Are you trying to turn us into communist China? You can't give the government the power to control the media because then who is looking out for us? The White House doesn't like Fox because they are the only network with commentary shows that have the balls to critize some of Obama's decisions. The lack of conservative commentary shows on the other networks is proof that the majority of the media leans left.

But as I've explained in a past post, we have to be careful to define what we are talking about here, news shows or commentary shows. The WH has been criticizing Fox and saying they're an extension of the Republican party, but when asked for examples they just refer to Glenn Beck and Hannity. Well those are both commentary shows and have no obligation to be fair and balanced about anything, it is their opinion. Just like how Bill Maher can say whatever leftist dribble he wants on his show without fear of censorship. Not to mention, if you've ever watched Glenn Beck you would know that he is no more closely aligned with the GOP than Obama is. But actual news shows on all networks have an ethical obligation to report the facts of a story in an unbias fashion and for the most part, Fox news shows usually have multiple guests from both sides of the issue. Can networks like MSNBC say the same?

  5. Democrats haven't cornered the market on helping the poor. Republicans do too, just not in the form of straight up hand outs. We don't believe that the government's role is to operate as a charity. Rather, the government's role is to enact legislation that is will optimize our economic status, ensure fairness in the market, provide a common defense, and a short list of other roles. It shouldn't be censoring or censuring anyone except itself.

  6. While this post is completely ridiculous, I do disagree with you about one thing Jake. Hannity's show may be a commentary show, but it is on the FOX NEWS CHANNEL, and he presents a lot of the info on his show as fact. While the other networks may be Obama apologists, I have never seen such a blatant disregard for truth and media integrity as what I have seen on the FOX NEWS CHANNEL.
